WB sets Christopher Nolan’s next mystery film for July 17, 2020!

Warner Bros. has announced it will release an untitled new film from director Christopher Nolan on July 17, 2020 — in IMAX, no less. We don’t know the title, the plot or the cast, but with the release date now public, expect those details to surface soon.

As of right now, the only films slated to open on July 17, 2020 are a pair of animated titles — BOB’S BURGERS from Fox and the third SPONGEBOB movie from Paramount. You can bet the latter project, no matter what it is, really, will be moved to elsewhere on the studio’s summer schedule. July 2020 also currently brings an untitled comic book movie from Sony/Marvel and an untitled DC movie, as well as Illumination’s MINIONS 2 and Disney’s JUNGLE CRUISE starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.

The month of July has proven to be a good luck charm for Nolan, whose latter two DARK KNIGHT films opened in July, as did both INCEPTION and DUNKIRK, the latter of which earned Nolan his first Oscar nomination for Best Director, as well as $527 million worldwide — impressive for a World War II movie. Nolan previously earned original screenplay nominations for INCEPTION and MEMENTO.

One thing’s for sure — every young actor in Hollywood will line up to work with Nolan, who launched several stars with DUNKIRK. Its then-unknown lead, Fionn Whitehead, just starred in ‘Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’, Barry Keoghan landed the lead role of Yorick in FX’s ‘Y: The Last Man’ pilot, and Jack Lowden will soon be seen the wrestling movie FIGHTING WITH MY FAMILY, produced by Dwayne Johnson.

I’m just relieved that the wait is, finally, over. July 2020 can’t come soon enough!
